Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in religious studies or a related subject is required.
• A master's degree in theology, divinity or pastoral studies is required.
• Certification is preferred; ordination/endorsement supports chaplaincy.
• Completion of 72 semester hours and potential CPE experience is expected.
• CPR certification is typically required and maintained.
• Must be licensed to drive with a valid automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

• Assure spiritual assessment of patients and families/caregivers and timely services.
• Participate in comprehensive assessment to plan care meeting spiritual needs.
• Provide direct spiritual care to patients and families/caregivers.
• Serve as liaison to community chaplains and spiritual counselors.
• Maintain records of spiritual care services for QA and policy review.
• Document services and ongoing communications with chaplains and counselors.
• Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Provide consultation and support to the interdisciplinary team.
• Recruit community chaplains and volunteers to meet needs.
• Provide for funeral or memorial services as requested.
• Plan memorial services for staff, volunteers and clergy.
• Supervise spiritual care volunteers as assigned.
