Beth Israel Lahey Health is hiring a per diem histology technician to support pathology services. The role involves processing tissue specimens, embedding, staining, IHC, and accessioning in the laboratory, with duties including equipment maintenance and safety compliance.

The position requires an HS Diploma, preferably an AS degree, and HT(ASCP) certification or a path lab-related Bachelor's with CAP HT experience. Certification within 18 months is expected.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required; AS degree preferred.
• ASCP HT certification or Bachelor's degree meeting CAP HT requirements with pathology lab experience.
• Successful completion of histology certification within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, cut, coverslip, stain and mount tissue specimens for evaluation.
• Perform special staining procedures including IHC and quality control slides.
• Accession specimens for Pathology and Cytology in the computer.
• Communicate with provider regarding specimen problems.
• Prepare GYN and Non-GYN cytology specimens and order molecular studies.
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment and keep records.
• Maintain inventory and communicate ordering needs to Clinical Specialist.
• Attend lab meetings, in-service education, and seminars.
• Pick up specimens from hospital areas.
• Perform frozen sections.
• Train new employees and interns in area of expertise.
• Dispose of specimens and hazardous chemicals properly.
