Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Histology Technician for full-time, 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) in IL Central Lab. You will accession specimens, prepare tissue sections, and perform staining, IHC, and slide preparations under supervision.

Requires Advanced science training with attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills. Safety and compliance with lab standards are essential; travel is infrequent.

Qualifications

• Advanced training beyond high school in a science-related field.
• No experience required.
• Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Accession, label, and ensure specimens are suitable for testing.
• Cut tissue sections to proper thickness and place on slides.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks and maintain filing for blocks and slides.
• Process tissue to preserve and infiltrate with paraffin.
• Perform stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slips, verification, and slide distribution.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, stains, IHC, controls, and send-outs.
• Conduct and document quality control and corrective actions under supervision.
• Assist pathologists during frozen section procedures and comply with accrediting standards.
