Job summary

Advocate Health's IL Central Lab in Rosemont is seeking a Histology Technician to join the 3rd shift team. You will accession, section, stain, and prepare tissue slides, ensuring quality control and compliance with lab standards.

This role includes handling specimens, maintaining tissue block archives, and collaborating with pathologists to deliver accurate results. The position offers full-time hours, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to contribute to a wide range of histology

Qualifications

• Advanced training beyond high school in a science-related field.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Accession specimens, labeling, and ensuring samples are suitable for testing.
• Cut tissue sections with proper thickness and place on slides.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks.
• Maintain filing system for blocks and slides.
• Process tissue to ensure preservation and infiltration by paraffin.
• Perform stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slipping, verification, and distribute slides.
• Retrieve and print computer logs.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, special stains, and send-outs per protocols.
• Perform and document quality control and corrective actions when needed.
• Assist pathologists during procedures and ensure compliance with accrediting standards.
