Job summary

Qualifications

• Associate degree in biological/chemical/clinical lab science or equivalent with histotechnology training (2+ years)
• HT/ASCP certification preferred or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year hospital lab experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination including fixation, processing, embedding and microtomy
• Perform routine and special staining procedures per protocols
• Assist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and related procedures
• Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and tracking
• Maintain quality and integrity of tissue samples for accurate diagnosis
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology equipment (microtomes, processors, stainers)
• Adhere to laboratory policies, safety guidelines and infection control practices
• Maintain documentation and records in compliance with CAP/CLIA/TJC
• Perform quality control and participate in QA activities
• Manage workflow to meet turnaround times and prioritize urgent specimens
• Assist with inventory management and stocking of supplies
• Ensure safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials
• Collaborate with pathologists and staff to support patient care
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Participate in continuing education and competency assessments
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Laboratory Director or Manager
