Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Long Island seeks a Laboratory Assistant - Histology for per diem shifts in Clinical Labs-Histology. You will assist with specimen processing, inventory, instrument maintenance, and communications with providers and other labs, supporting daily lab operations.

Responsibilities include morgue maintenance, body receipt, temperature/humidity logs, sample prep, storage, disposal, and front-end processing of samples.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 12 biology or chemistry credits.
• Lab experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Proficiency with Excel and Word; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with day-to-day lab operations and inventory management.
• Maintain morgue records and assist with body receipt and hand-off.
• Prepare, label, centrifuge, aliquot, and transport samples for analysis.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of materials; document shipments.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment and work areas.
• Support front-end processing and back-end sample handling.
• Dispose of regulated waste per policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Answer phones and provide test availability and turnaround information.
