Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Pathological Admin for part-time, day shifts in Clinical Labs-Pathological Admin. The role supports day-to-day lab operations, specimen handling, inventory management, instrument maintenance, and communication with providers and other laboratories.

The ideal candidate has a high school degree with biology/chemistry coursework, laboratory experience with blood and body fluids, and strong Excel/Word skills plus clear communication.

Qualifications

• High School Degree with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluid (accessioning/intake not included).
• Knowledge of computer applications especially Excel and Word.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with day-to-day operations including clinical, clerical, and inventory tasks.
• Assist Pathology Department in daily maintenance and morgue-related duties.
• Maintain general lab supplies and department reagents; notify supervisor when restock needed.
• Proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials and documentation per policy.
• Front-end processing of samples: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport.
• Back-end processing: sample storage, tracking, disposal per policy.
• Dispose of all department regulated medical/biological/chemical waste.
• Clean lab surfaces and equipment per protocols; document as required.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment and areas.
• Review routine and stat pending lists; retrieve missed tests/specimens.
• Answer phones and provide test availability, requirements, and TAT info.
