Job summary

Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Release of Information Specialist to process basic requests for health information and ensure HIPAA-compliant handling. You will verify authorization, log requests in OnBase/EPIC, and prepare records for delivery through secure channels.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
• Strong ethical skills to handle confidential information with integrity and keep it confidential
• Strong research skills to identify PHI in historical and current patient records
• Advanced computer skills including proficient keyboarding and Microsoft Office
• Ability to read and comprehend medical terminology, anatomy, and disease processes
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make good judgements

Responsibilities

• Ensures, safeguards, and protects patients' right to privacy by staying current with HIPAA regulations and policies
• Receives requests, validates authorization meets legal requirements, and ensures releases comply with policies
• Logs requests in the Release of Information tracking system (OnBase and EPIC)
• Identifies and selects appropriate patient information for release while complying with regulations
• Locates information in the EHR and ensures complete inclusion in requests
• Reviews pages of scanned documentation to prevent incorrect releases
• Releases records in requested format and emphasizes cyber security in communications
• Provides excellent customer service and explains request processes and turnaround times
• Performs clerical tasks such as answering phones, copying, faxing, and distributing supplies
