Job summary

Tri-County Community Action Agency seeks a Release of Information Specialist to process medical records requests for multiple stakeholders from Johnston, RI. The role focuses on HIPAA compliance, accurate document handling, and maintaining patient confidentiality across electronic and paper records.

It supports quality improvement efforts and coordinated care. Ideal candidates hold an associate degree in health information management and preferably an RHIT credential, with experience in NextGen

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Health Information Management or related field.
• RHIT credential preferred.
• Working knowledge of NextGen Products (PM, EHR, etc.) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience with medical records procedures and/or electronic medical records.
• Knowledge of Release of Information processes.
• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations, confidentiality, and related laws.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Receives requests through various forms and reviews legitimacy before release.
• Maintains knowledge of state statutes on authorization and related fees.
• Analyzes requests, abstracts pertinent portions, and safeguards patient confidentiality.
• Releases restricted information in compliance with policies and laws.
• Scans documents into patient records and manages records requests for future appointments.
• Handles subpoenas, court orders, and prepares copies for legal requests.
• Tracks the release of information through the full process and logs PHI access in NextGen.
• Processes invoices and payments for record requests.
• Provides timely follow-up to requestors and coordinates with staff as needed.
• Supports other staff and participates in quality improvement activities.
