Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a Health Information Release Specialist. The role handles requests for health information and ensures proper authorization and HIPAA compliance. The candidate will act as the department’s first contact, verify requester identity, and manage documentation within the EMR system.

The position requires a high school diploma, familiarity with desktop tools, and preferred notary commission. Training in medical terminology may be provided.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent required.
• Familiarity with desktop computing tools and software.
• Notary Public commission preferred; must obtain if not already; training in Medical Terminology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the first point of contact for the department. Receives medical requests over phone, in-person, fax and email.
• Confirms the identity of requestors using government-issued IDs and reviews written authorization.
• Ensures HIPAA-compliant authorization is obtained prior to release of records and within policy time frames.
• Collaborates with Pardee legal counsel regarding subpoenas and court orders for medical information.
• Documents and directs patient complaints with risk management.
• Responds to governmental information requests requiring expedited attention.
• Notarizes signatures on legal documents as part of notarization duties.
• Records all releases in the EMR system.
