Job summary

The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor at BMCHS leads the South HIM - Medical Records department, ensuring accurate scanning, indexing, and timely availability of patient records in the EHR to support safe patient care and compliant revenue cycle performance.

The role partners with Epic analysts and Information Technology, monitors KPIs, oversees staff, and drives continuous improvement in document management workflows to achieve departmental goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in Health Information Management.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience required.
• Experience using Epic.
• Experience with document imaging and indexing software required.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise the daily operations of the HIM Department.
• Plan, assign, and prioritize departmental workload to meet turnaround times.
• Monitor productivity, staffing levels, and workflow for efficiency.
• Develop staffing schedules and coordinate coverage for vacations, leaves, and peak periods.
• Conduct staff meetings and communicate initiatives and departmental goals.
• Foster accountability, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and mentor staff and complete evaluations.
• Monitor attendance and productivity; address performance issues per policy.
• Establish quality standards for scanning and indexing; conduct routine audits.
• Collaborate with Epic analysts and IT on imaging workflows and system enhancements.
• Assist in testing software upgrades and workflow changes.
• Maintain retention and destruction practices for documents.
