Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to operate a 5-yard dump truck and perform essential road repair tasks at the Richland Maintenance Ballentine Section Shed. Responsibilities include pothole repair, base surface maintenance, and drainage work, with light to heavy manual labor as needed.

You will also assist in traffic control, act as a flagger in work zones, and participate in emergency weather operations.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience required.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required on entry.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate a 5-yard dump truck for hauling asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe and debris.
• Perform manual repairs of potholes and base surface failures using hand tools.
• Operate a forklift for loading and unloading material.
• Build catch basins, pour concrete for curbs and raised medians, lay pipes for driveways and drainage structures.
• Assist with traffic control in maintenance work zones and serve as a flagger.
• Support emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended shifts when needed.
