Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to perform highway upkeep using light and medium equipment, including dump trucks and patching gear.

Responsibilities include operating tools such as chainsaws, rakes, and shovels; picking up litter and debris; and coordinating traffic control devices to safely set up work zones. CDL required within 6 months; no formal experience required beyond license attainment.

Qualifications

• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate a dump truck and road patching equipment for highway maintenance.
• Use manual tools such as chainsaws, rakes, and shovels in roadway upkeep.
• Pick up litter, debris, and dead animals.
• Coordinate traffic control devices to set up a safe maintenance work zone.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
