Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker for Richland Maintenance in Columbia. You will operate a tandem dump truck hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement and debris, and use a skid steer to fill low shoulders on primary and secondary roads within the SCDOT right-of-way.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, the ability to work extended hours or 12‑hour shifts, and a CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license; CDL required within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate a tandem dump truck hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, and debris.
• Operate a skid steer to fill low shoulders on primary and secondary roads within SCDOT right-of-way.
• Perform hand work for ditching, including shovel work around mailboxes and cleaning dirt from pipe mouths.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone per SCDOT manual and field guide.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, including operating medium or heavy equipment.
• May require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
