Job summary

South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) seeks two full-time Highway Maintenance Workers to keep state highways safe and drivable. You’ll work in a crew performing road maintenance, roadside tasks, and winter operations, with day schedules May–Sept and 8-hour days Oct–Apr, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Applicants must have or obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and no restrictions within 120 days, plus a valid driver license; CDL requirements include N

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment/farming or ranching equipment; heavy construction experience preferred.
• Knowledge of road maintenance materials and techniques is desirable.
• Basic math skills and basic computer operation are required or desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway maintenance and roadside activities.
• Install and replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
• Maintain and repair guardrail systems and department facilities.
• Provide winter maintenance and respond to emergencies and incidents.
