Job summary

South Dakota Department of Transportation seeks Winter Maintenance Seasonal workers for snow and ice removal on State highways, based in Flandreau. Two positions available with day and night shifts, approximately 40 hours per week, in a seasonal, non-benefited role.

Applicants must be 18+, able to operate heavy equipment, and hold a valid driver's license with a Class A/B CDL and N: Tank Vehicles endorsement (or obtain within 30 days).

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age and able to operate heavy equipment.
• Must have a valid driver's license and Class A or Class B CDL with a N: Tank Vehicles endorsement.
• If you do not have the N: Tank Vehicles endorsement you have 30 days to obtain it.
• Drug and alcohol testing and driving record checks are required.
• Seasonal, non-benefited position; exempt from civil service.

Responsibilities

• Snow and ice removal on State highways during inclement weather.
• Perform a variety of highway maintenance tasks.
• Install, direct, and replace signs, delineators and permanent traffic control devices.
• Maintain and repair department facilities; assist in preventive maintenance and equipment repair.
• Respond to emergencies and ensure safe work zones and public safety awareness.
