Job summary

South Dakota Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Maintenance Worker in White River, SD. This full-time role requires operating heavy equipment, performing road maintenance, traffic control, and winter duties, with a 10-hour/4-day schedule May–Sept and 8-hour/Mon–Fri schedule Oct–Apr. CDL class A with tanker endorsement is required within 120 days.

Hourly pay: $22.74–$24.25. Benefits include health and dental plans, retirement, paid leave, holidays, and overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• Valid driver license required; CDL within 120 days.
• Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required for certain vehicles.
• Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair highways and related infrastructure as part of a crew.
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
• Perform winter maintenance and respond to emergencies and incidents.
• Ensure safety, document activities, and provide on-the-job training as needed.
