Job summary

State of Nebraska is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior to join the Nebraska Department of Transportation in Fairbury, NE. The role includes operating trucks, tractors, and sign installation equipment, performing roadside maintenance, and winter snow removal.

Promotion eligibility exists for CDL holders with air brakes and tanker endorsements. Competent applicants will have a valid driver’s license, a willingness to learn, and a focus on safety.

Qualifications

Must be 18+ years old with a valid driver’s license.
CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days.
Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and traffic.
Strong safety mindset and teamwork orientation.

Responsibilities

Operate trucks and light equipment to perform highway maintenance.
Operate tractors with attachments (discs, harrows, seeders, mowers, sprayers).
Install signs, fences, and guardrails using post drivers and tools.
Maintain shrubs, lawns, trees; perform patching and sealing of highways.
Perform snow removal and road maintenance during emergencies when required.
