Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Transportation is seeking a Hwy Maintenance Worker/Senior to join our Ord team. This role involves operating heavy highway equipment, road maintenance, and roadside landscaping to keep Nebraska roads safe and reliable.

Qualifications

• Experience in the operation of heavy or farm equipment.
• Valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.
• Commercial Pesticide applicator license is preferred.
• Basic computer experience is a plus.
• Safety-minded, team-oriented worker.

Responsibilities

• Operate motor-grader, trucks, and light equipment to support roadwork.
• Mow right-of-ways and maintain shoulders using mowers and tractors with attachments.
• Install and move signs, fences, guardrails, and snow fences.
• Maintain shrubs, lawns, buildings, and perform painting and cleaning tasks.
• Repair and patch roads, apply sealants, and repair signs and surfaces.
• Control traffic around worksites and relay weather conditions by radio.
• Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on equipment.
• Move and load materials and hazardous items within weight limits.
• Operate snow removal equipment as needed and during emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
