Job summary

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Fort Wayne Unit is seeking a Crew Leader to supervise field crews in general highway maintenance, traffic operations, and winter duties. This role requires a CDL or obtaining one within 90 days and includes responsibilities for safety, equipment operation, and coordination with contractors.

The position emphasizes leadership, adherence to INDOT guidelines, and the ability to perform physical tasks in variable conditions, with competitive hourly pay

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or B CDL or obtain within 90 days.
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local highway guidelines for construction inspection, testing, maintenance.
• Knowledge of drafting and surveying techniques.
• Ability to independently lead a crew in the field.
• Ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Must lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways.
• Ensure staff complete work assignments and report problems to supervisors.
• Communicate with contractors to ensure INDOT standards.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Maintain and inspect equipment; perform minor repairs and fueling.
• Maintain, repair, and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Respond to emergencies with traffic control and signage.
