Job summary

State of Indiana seeks a Highway Technician for INDOT’s Loogootee Unit to maintain highways and assist in emergency road operations. This entry-level role requires a CDL within 90 days and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Overtime may be required during emergencies, including winter operations.

The position starts at $20.00 per hour, with CDL earning potential adding $1 per hour. CDL training is provided onsite by INDOT staff, and benefits are substantial under the state program.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities for long periods.
• Must endure inclement weather and operate traffic equipment.
• Follow directions and work as part of a team.
• CDL training provided if needed and required by district.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to keep roads safe.
• Move and load supplies; perform winter operations and snow removal.
• Assist with emergency response, traffic control, and lane closures.
• Inspect and maintain equipment; perform routine maintenance.
• Participate in additional duties as assigned.
