Job summary

The State of Indiana, through INDOT, is hiring a Highway Technician for the Westfield Unit. This entry‑level role will perform general maintenance on highways and interstates, including litter clean‑up, pothole filling, drainage work, and snow removal, with a focus on safety and reliability.

You will support traffic control during incidents and emergencies, undergo CDL eligibility training, and work mandatory overtime in winter.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within the first 90 days.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather and operate traffic equipment as needed.
• A degree is not required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations duties including snow and ice removal.
• Emergency response activities such as clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, signs and barricades.
• Regular inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain, repair, and install traffic signs, route markers and pavement markings.
• Receive, inspect, and record new materials, supplies, and equipment arriving in District Traffic.
• Maintain perpetual inventory of supplies and dispense materials.
• Operate inventory control system and maintain attendance at worksite.
