Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Substation Technician to construct, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage substation equipment to ensure safe power delivery.

The role requires reading schematics and diagrams, performing switching procedures, and supporting energization and startup activities while upholding strict safety standards and teamwork. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; technical, vocational, or related associate degree preferred.
• Two years of electrical/substation experience or apprenticeship completion is preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and construction drawings.
• Knowledge of high-voltage systems, safety practices, and safe work methods.
• Valid driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of substation equipment.
• Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.
• Construct grounding systems, steel structures, conduit, and other infrastructure.
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and drawings.
• Execute switching procedures and assist energization, commissioning, startup.
• Troubleshoot electrical/control system issues and identify faults.
• Maintain maintenance/testing/inspection records accurately.
• Follow OSHA and company safety requirements and use PPE.
• Respond to emergency outages and support restoration efforts.
