Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Substation Technician to build, test, and maintain high-voltage substation equipment to ensure safe, reliable power delivery. Responsibilities include inspecting transformers, breakers, relays, and capacitor banks; installing cables; building grounding systems; and interpreting schematics for troubleshooting and maintenance.

The role requires reading electrical drawings, adhering to safety standards, and supporting energization and commissioning activities across project

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of electrical/substation experience; apprenticeship preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings.
• Valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, test, and repair substation equipment like transformers, breakers, relays, and capacitor banks.
• Install and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.
• Construct grounding systems, structures, conduits, and related infrastructure.
• Read and interpret schematics and construction drawings.
• Perform switching, energization, commissioning, and startup support.
• Troubleshoot electrical/control issues and document maintenance records.
• Follow safety requirements and use PPE; travel to project sites as needed.
