Job summary

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking a knowledgeable Math Tutor to support high school students at MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE. You will tailor instruction to each student, helping them understand Algebra through Calculus and Statistics, with a focus on test prep and study strategies.

Responsibilities include assessing current skills, creating personalized lesson plans, and providing progress updates to students and, when appropriate, parents and teachers.

Qualifications

  • Some College preferred
  • Strong proficiency in high school mathematics
  • Experience tutoring or teaching adolescents
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized

Responsibilities

  • Tutor one-on-one or small groups in high school math subjects (Algebra I–Calculus, Statistics)
  • Assess students’ current math skills to identify strengths and gaps
  • Develop customized lesson plans and practice exercises aligned to curriculum
  • Assist with homework, test prep (SAT/ACT math) and assignments
  • Explain complex concepts clearly to support understanding and retention
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and teachers as applicable
  • Use diverse teaching tools (visual aids, manipulatives, online platforms) to suit learning styles
  • Maintain accurate records of sessions, progress, and future plans
  • Foster a positive, growth-oriented mindset to build confidence
  • Stay current with math standards and best practices
  • Facilitate MEC LPP assessments and surveys
  • Other duties as assigned
