Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate various heavy machinery for MSW and recycling projects. You will perform site prep, earth moving, and equipment maintenance while following safety and regulatory requirements.

The role requires 3+ years of heavy equipment experience, ability to pass required tests, and willingness to work nights/weekends as needed. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years experience operating heavy equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, dozer, or similar.
• Must pass a written and operational test to be certified for each piece of equipment.
• Specific to Boyd: hazardous waste training within six months of employment, with annual review.
• Must be able to read and speak English well enough to understand directions and safety training.
• Pre-employment testing may be required, including safety and capability assessments.
• Valid driver's license (if applicable) and ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely including bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, and loaders per regulations and policies.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document findings.
• Conduct routine maintenance such as lubrication, fueling, and cleaning.
• Prepare sites, move earth, and assist with landscaping and snow removal tasks.
• Monitor equipment continuously to ensure proper operation and minimize downtime.
• Interact professionally with customers and co-workers.
• Handle waste material safely and move it without compromising tanks or personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
