Job summary

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) at Mayo Clinic provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units, manages supplies, answers call lights, and assists the care team with orders in the EHR.

Requires a high school diploma, computer skills, and preferably HUC certification or post-secondary program; one year medical experience; EPIC/EHR knowledge; strong customer service, adaptability; flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• HUC post-secondary program or HUC Certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a medical environment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Proficiency with computer skills and EHR systems (EPIC preferred).
• Outstanding customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations; flexible schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team.
• Monitor and order supplies and answer patient call lights; escalate needs to nursing staff.
• Assist with managing orders in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff across care continuum.
• Support the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to requests; participate in continuous improvement activities.
