Job summary

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) at Mayo Clinic provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and teams. Responsibilities include monitoring supplies, answering call lights, assisting with orders in the EHR, and coordinating communication across care staff.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, basic computer skills, and experience in a medical setting; EPIC/EHR knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and strong keyboarding skills (Windows-based applications, LAN use, and intranet/internet use) required.
• Successful completion of HUC post-secondary program, or HUC Certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year working experience in a medical environment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
• Working knowledge with EHR systems, EPIC preferred.
• Outstanding customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Availability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Maintains certifications/licensure per work unit requirements.

Responsibilities

• The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team.
• Monitors and orders supplies and promptly answers patient call lights.
• Elevates patient needs to nursing staff and assists with managing orders in the EHR.
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and facility staff and coordinates care across the continuum.
