Job summary

Save the Children in Jennings, LA seeks an Assistant Cook/Food Transporter to support Head Start kitchens. You will help order, prepare, serve and document meals, follow menus, and ensure CACFP/USDA compliance while maintaining inventory.

This front-line role requires a high school diploma, two years in food service, English proficiency, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to operate across multiple centers. Base pay starts at $15/hour with a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a food service environment preferred.
• Strong teamwork and customer service orientation.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals following menus and CACFP/USDA standards.
• Assist in ordering, transporting, and documenting meals and snacks.
• Maintain inventory and ensure food safety and cleanliness.
• Oversee or assist full kitchen operations and supervise volunteers as needed.
• Deliver meals to satellite Head Start sites and maintain delivery records.
• Attend required program meetings and maintain production books.
