Job summary

Save the Children is hiring an Assistant Cook/Food Transporter to support meal preparation and safe delivery for Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This role emphasizes adherence to CACFP/USDA standards, inventory control, and safe handling of food and equipment.

The position requires strong English communication, teamwork, and reliable vehicle operation for transporting meals between kitchens and satellite sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least two years of related experience.
• Demonstrated experience working in a food service environment.
• Proven teamwork and customer service orientation.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Organizational skills and time management.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Valid driver's license; must be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals following menus, CACFP/USDA standards and Head Start requirements.
• Assist in transporting meals to satellite Head Start sites and maintain safe delivery practices.
• Oversee with Head Cook and supervise volunteers as needed; help manage inventory and food safety.
• Ensure recipes are followed and portions align with CACFP meal requirements.
• Attend program meetings and maintain daily documentation for CACFP and related records.
• Support cost-control efforts by monitoring food and labor costs and ensuring cleanliness.
