Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Data Center Chief Engineer to lead maintenance and operations of critical electrical, mechanical, and fire/safety systems across AWS data centers.

You will serve as the technical focal point for the site, coordinate with Engineering Operations Technicians and vendors, and drive safe, efficient facility performance. You will participate in after-hours maintenance, mentor technicians, and help define standard practices to improve reliability while supporting AWS

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for facilities-related issues across critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, cooling and monitoring systems.
• Perform root cause analyses of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within SLAs.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and coordinate with the Facility Manager to shape team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices forEngineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor teams.
• Assist in building out new facilities and projects to boost overall facility efficiency.
• Work outside regular hours for routine maintenance and respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences and coordinate with IT managers on projects.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and Amazon staff; establish building performance benchmarks and prepare reports.
