Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Data Center Chief Engineer to manage essential electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems across AWS data centers.

You will oversee preventative maintenance, respond to emergencies, and coordinate with Engineering Operations Technicians and vendors to ensure peak performance. The role requires deep technical knowledge, strong communication, and the ability to travel between data center sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of electrical and mechanical facilities maintenance experience or 3+ years electrical facilities maintenance and 2+ years mechanical facilities maintenance.
• 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience.
• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues including maintenance of switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, and building monitoring systems.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within SLA.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and coordinate with the Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• May assist in building out new facilities and projects to increase efficiency.
• Work outside of normal hours for routine maintenance and respond to after-hours emergencies.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Coordinate with IT managers to manage capacity, safety, performance and efficiency of facilities.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and Amazon staff.
• Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare maintenance reports.
• Utilize Excel, Word, Outlook for day-to-day tasks.
