Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Data Center Chief Engineer to lead and maintain critical electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems across AWS data centers. You will drive preventative maintenance, respond to emergencies, and act as the on-site focal point for facilities operations.

You’ll collaborate with Engineering Operations Technicians, vendors, and IT leaders to maximize safety, reliability, and efficiency while supporting remote data center sites and travel as required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of mission critical facilities experience including electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic administrative tools.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures within SLAs.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and collaborate with Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor teams.
• Assist in building out new facilities and projects to improve facility efficiency.
• Work outside of normal hours for routine maintenance and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Coordinate projects with IT managers to optimize safety, performance and reliability.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and staff.
• Establish building performance benchmarks and prepare maintenance reports.
