Job summary

Summer Consultants, Inc. is seeking Mechanical Engineering Interns for Summer 2027 to explore building systems and real-world applications of coursework. You will assist with surveys, calculations, layout work, and drawings for renovations and modernizations of federal and institutional facilities.

interns gain hands-on experience in MEP/FP design, learn to translate field observations into practical design decisions, and collaborate with senior engineers in a small, technically engaged team.

Qualifications

• Two years of coursework toward a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering (HVAC focus), Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• Interest in HVAC, building systems, and renovation projects.
• Willingness to spend time in the field surveying existing conditions.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical and plumbing design work on renovation and existing-building projects.
• Participate in field surveys to observe and document existing building conditions and systems.
• Assist with HVAC and plumbing calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
• Translate survey information into project drawings and design documentation.
• Use Revit and AutoCAD to support project work.
• Coordinate with engineers and designers from other disciplines.
• Ask questions, apply feedback, and take on increasing responsibility.
• Help solve client problems with curiosity, precision, quality, and follow-through.
