Job summary

Summer Consultants, Inc. is seeking Electrical Engineering Interns for Summer 2027 in the McLean, VA area. You will gain hands-on experience in designing MEP systems, surveying existing buildings, and contributing to real renovation projects across federal and institutional facilities.

You will work with experienced engineers on field surveys, layouts, and documentation, using Revit and AutoCAD, and you will learn how classroom concepts become practical designs in real buildings.

Qualifications

• At least two years completed toward a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Architectural Engineering (Electrical/Lighting focus).
• Genuine interest in power, lighting, electrical distribution, building systems, and renovation projects.
• Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field surveying existing conditions and observing design decisions.
• Ability to learn from experienced engineers, ask questions, and apply feedback to projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical design work on renovation and existing-building projects.
• Participate in field surveys to observe and document existing building conditions and electrical systems.
• Assist with lighting and power design, electrical calculations, lighting calculations, and system layouts.
• Help translate survey information, calculations, and constraints into project drawings and documentation.
• Use Revit and AutoCAD to support project work.
• Coordinate with engineers from other disciplines.
• Take on increasing responsibility as skills develop.
