Job summary

Top Dog Recruiting is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer for steel operations. You will troubleshoot, design, and supervise installations on heavy industrial equipment, focusing on reliability, uptime, and plant safety.

You will lead capital projects, upgrades, and environmental systems, coordinating with maintenance, operations, and contractors to deliver on time and within budget. This role blends shop-floor problem solving with strategic project leadership in a demanding steelmaking

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline (equivalent experience considered).
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in steelmaking/heavy industry.
Experience with large baghouse, dust collection, or environmental systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, improve, and optimize mechanical and hydraulic systems across the facility.
Lead reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to increase uptime and efficiency.
Support and manage melting and steelmaking equipment upgrades, modifications, installations, and troubleshooting.
Provide engineering expertise for large baghouse and environmental systems to ensure compliance.
Lead capital and facility improvement projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and completion.
Develop detailed project scopes, specifications, bid packages, cost estimates, and schedules.
Evaluate equipment suppliers and contractors, review proposals, negotiate contracts, and oversee outside resources.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and other teams to keep projects moving.
Manage projects to budgets, schedules, safety requirements, and performance expectations.
Assist the Director of Steelmaking Technology with specialized engineering projects and strategic initiatives.
Provide hands-on technical support during installations, shutdowns, troubleshooting, and plant improvements.
Travel locally and internationally as needed to support projects and equipment evaluations.
Maintain a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
