Job summary

Workforce Recruiter is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineer for a heavy industrial steel operation. This hands-on role blends field troubleshooting with engineering design, supporting equipment upgrades and reliability initiatives.

You will lead major capital projects, specify equipment, manage contractors, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while driving uptime and efficiency across plant floors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in steelmaking or heavy industrial settings.
• Experience with mechanical equipment, hydraulics, and plant systems.
• Experience with melting equipment, furnaces, or steelmaking operations is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and project leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, improve, and optimize mechanical and hydraulic systems across the facility.
• Lead reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to increase uptime and efficiency.
• Support and manage melting and steelmaking equipment upgrades, installations, and troubleshooting.
• Provide engineering input for large environmental systems and baghouse operations.
• Lead capital and facility improvement projects from concept to completion.
• Develop scopes, specifications, bids, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Evaluate suppliers, review proposals, negotiate contracts, and oversee outside resources.
• Coordinate with multiple teams to keep projects moving forward.
• Ensure safety, budgets, and regulatory compliance for all projects.
