Job summary

Allstate is seeking a Managing Engineer to lead high-performing software teams that modernize enterprise applications supporting Roadside Services. This hands-on leadership role requires active Java coding alongside people leadership, with a focus on technical strategy and engineering excellence.

The ideal candidate combines deep Java/Spring Boot expertise with strong leadership, collaboration, and cloud-native delivery capabilities to drive scalable, secure production systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with leadership
• Hands-on with Java and Spring Boot in enterprise apps
• Experience delivering scalable, reliable production systems
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices
• Knowledge of microservices, APIs, and cloud-native development
• Experience leading technical planning, estimation, and execution

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop software engineering teams, providing mentorship and performance feedback
• Contribute production-quality Java code and review complex issues
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Security and business leaders to translate goals into technology
• Guide agile planning, prioritization, and delivery
• Define architectures, roadmaps, and engineering standards
• Drive engineering excellence with modern development practices
• Ensure production systems are secure, scalable, and reliable
• Remove obstacles and enable teams to meet commitments
• Lead retrospectives and continuous improvement initiatives
• Foster cross-team collaboration and alignment
• Support workforce planning, recruiting, and talent development
• Monitor engineering metrics related to quality and delivery
• Advise on best practices and emerging technologies
