Job summary

Allstate is seeking a Managing Engineer to architect and design digital products, lead technical teams, and own production success. You will apply systematic engineering practices to design, implement, test, and document software while ensuring KPI-driven outcomes.

You will drive testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, pair programming, and TDD, collaborating with product managers to align on backlogs and priorities.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, product engineering, or similar skill.
• Strong proficiency in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x+.
• Understanding of frontend engineering – ReactJS/AngularJS/Typescript.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and distributed systems.
• Experience building microservices and event-driven systems (Kafka preferred).
• Understanding of cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, AWS).
• Experience with relational/NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI/JSON/AVSC schema standards.
• Practice Test-Driven Development (TDD) and secure development principles.
• CI/CD experience with Jenkins and GitHub Actions; Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Leads and participates in knowledge sharing and contribute to the growth of team and organizational engineering practices
• Leads Design, build, and enhance software products
• Leads and participates in design and implement testing strategies to validate acceptance criteria
• Leads and promotes pair programming and test-driven development as part of daily engineering work
• Collaborate with the team on system and application design, selecting effective technical solutions
• Leads iteration planning and ensures shared understanding of backlog stories and technical requirements
• Leads daily standups, cross-site collaboration, and product team ceremonies
• Collaborate with other digital product teams and clearly communicate technical designs
• Leads and participates in retrospectives, encouraging feedback with empathy
• Serves as technical lead; guides technology choices and resolves conflicts
• Establishes CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices
• Leads cross-product strategy alignment with product managers and stakeholders
• Acts as expert across multiple business domains and technology stacks
