Job summary

Kroger Tempe location is hiring an Assistant Department Manager for the Grocery Department. You will assist in planning, staffing, training and directing associates to ensure prompt, courteous service and sales goals.

You will oversee ordering, merchandising, signage, and promotional execution while upholding company policies and safety standards. Responsibilities include budget input, scheduling, customer interaction and maintaining clean, organized departments.

Qualifications

• Flexibility to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, or nights.
• Willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make quick, sound decisions.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
• Experience in production, merchandising and customer service related to sales.
• Understanding of department operations (staffing, merchandising, ordering, inventory, scheduling).
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Ability to operate power machinery and job tools (power jacks, cutters, labeling tools, balers).
• Grocery retail work experience and/or backup manager experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in organizing work and scheduling associates.
• Respond to customer or associate comments and questions professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand in the Department Manager’s absence.
• Price and display merchandise; maintain signage, shelf space and product freshness.
• Engage in personnel development and promotional activities.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, dress code, sanitation and safe work environment.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment and facilities in good order and safe condition.
• Keep floor and grocery areas clean and sanitary.
• Support company initiatives and process improvements with direct reports.
• Demonstrate ability to manage people and workload.
• Perform any duties as assigned.
