Job summary

Teradata is seeking a Database Internals Engineer to join its Office of the CTO Advanced Research Team. You will help build a next-generation parallel compute engine, touching the SQL front end, plan/distribution, optimizer, and storage layers.

You will work with experts on a frontier engine, focusing on correctness and performance from day one. Ideal candidates have strong systems programming in Rust or C/C++, experience with distributed execution frameworks, and familiarity with columnar

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed query optimization and logical/physical plan distribution.
• Strong knowledge of parallel execution and data movement in distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Arrow-based in-memory formats and columnar processing.
• Hands-on background with Rust or modern C/C++ and memory-safety principles.
• Experience with testing, benchmarking, and correct-by-construction design.

Responsibilities

• Build core components of a next-gen parallel compute engine from the ground up.
• Develop storage substrate and data formats (Arrow, on-disk structures, checksums).
• Implement transactions, recovery, and concurrency control mechanisms.
• Design specifications and tests before coding; ensure correctness and performance.
