Job summary

SoFi is seeking a Principal Advisor to lead the Global Sanctions Compliance function as it expands into digital assets. You will oversee the Enterprise Sanctions Program across lines of business and jurisdictions, advising Compliance, product managers, engineers, and business units.

The role requires senior OFAC experience and leadership within a Tier‑1 financial institution mindset, with a strong track record in policy development and risk management across global sanctions regimes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years in a senior policy, enforcement, licensing, or compliance role within OFAC.
• 10‑15+ years of experience in sanctions, including crypto and global sanctions compliance.
• Understanding of BaaS products including payment processing, card issuance, credit and lending, and related banking services.
• Ability to lead development and governance structures reflecting evolving legal and regulatory landscapes.
• Provide advisory support on high‑risk transactions, market expansions, and sanctions regimes.
• Strong communication skills across all levels and business lines.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to build relationships within the organization.
• Excellent sanctions compliance knowledge across international jurisdictions.
• Excellent organizational, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Be accountable as the Sanctions Program Leader.
• Act as Sanctions SME for Compliance, product managers, engineers, and business units.
• Engage with AML leaders to identify changes impacting sanctions processes and publish guidance.
• Support annual sanctions risk assessment and implement effective controls.
• Provide proactive guidance to detect and reduce sanctions exposure.
• Assist in developing and reviewing sanctions policies, procedures, and controls.
• Partner with compliance, business, and engineering teams on sanctions issues.
• Stay informed of sanctions regulations and industry trends.
• Recommend updates to policies and processes to strengthen compliance.
• Assist in regulatory exams, internal audits, and third‑party risk reviews.
