Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools seeks a Girls Basketball - Assistant Coach (Sophomore) to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating the program for sophomore players. The role focuses on safety, inclusivity, and development of student-athletes within a positive team culture.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification.
• CPR/AED certification for high school athletic coaches.
• IHSA concussion awareness training and safety protocols.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance.
• Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
• Strong knowledge of the sport, rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Prior coaching experience in the sport.
• Commitment to diverse, inclusive athletic program for student-athletes.
• Coaching Certification through ASEP/NFHS or IHSA-approved programs.
• Concussion certification with two-year validity.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design drills, practice plans, and conditioning.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics: equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, scorekeeping.
• Maintain inventory and coordinate repairs of athletic equipment.
• Monitor IHSA rules, district policies, and safety protocols (CPR/AED, concussion).
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and required documentation (physicals, clearances).
• Foster relationships with students, parents, and staff as liaison to Head Coach.
• Participate in preseason parent meetings, trainings, and postseason tasks.
