Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking a Girls Basketball Assistant Coach (Sophomore) to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all facets of the program. The role emphasizes a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes.

The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills and a track record in coaching, with eligibility to work under IHSA guidelines.

Qualifications

Required Illinois teaching certificate or ASEP/NFHS certification.
CPR/AED certification required for IHSA coaches.
IHSA concussion awareness training and safety protocols.
Background check and fingerprint clearance.
Title IX training for compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
Coaching certification through ASEP/NFHS or IHSA-approved programs.

Responsibilities

Assist Head Coach with skill-development drills, practice plans and conditioning.
Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort and sportsmanship.
Assist with game-day logistics: equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, scorekeeping.
Maintain inventory of athletic equipment and coordinate repairs.
Monitor IHSA rules, district policies and safety protocols including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
Support athlete eligibility tracking and documentation (physicals, clearances).
Foster positive relationships with students, parents and staff; elevate concerns as needed.
Participate in preseason meetings, trainings and postseason equipment returns.
