Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking a Boys Basketball Assistant Coach (Sophomore) to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all facets of the program. You will foster a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to build a competitive program.

The ideal candidate has coaching experience, IHSA-compliant certifications, and a strong commitment to student

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois teaching certificate or IHSA-certified equivalence.
• CPR/AED certification as required by IHSA and state law.
• Concussion awareness training and safety protocol knowledge.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance.
• Title IX training completion and compliance understanding.
• Deep knowledge of high school basketball rules and strategies.
• Proven coaching experience in the sport.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design drills, plans, and conditioning.
• Provide feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, equipment, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain inventory, repairs, and storage of equipment.
• Ensure adherence to IHSA rules, safety protocols, and CPR/AED readiness.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and required documentation.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Participate in preseason meetings, trainings, and postseason tasks.
• Assist with schedule development and travel coordination.
• Support budget tracking and inventory management.
• Assist with parent/booster communications and program updates.
• Prepare compliance documentation under the Head Coach's direction.
