Job summary

Brown University is seeking a Gift Compliance Officer to ensure donors have a positive philanthropic experience and to lay groundwork for long-term stewardship through accurate gift documentation.

The role involves evaluating fundraiser requests, developing and reviewing gift agreements, and ensuring alignment with university policies. The officer also provides coaching for fundraisers and advances staff, while maintaining data in various tracking systems for accuracy and actionability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such as fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, sales, customer service, and/or grant management.
• Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, evaluate, and support strategic plans.
• Strong attention to detail, especially in writing, with respect to names, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Must be comfortable learning and using technology, both new and existing (e.g. ClickUp, Confluence, MS Office, Google Apps, Gemini, NotebookLM, collaboration software, etc.)
• Must be proficient with managing data and data analysis.
• Ability to work independently and to manage highly complex processes for a high-quality end product.
• Ability to problem solve, to communicate effectively and professionally, to work well under deadlines, and to collaborate in a team environment.
• Proven ability to analyze data, research information, problem-solve, and coordinate projects.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment with emphasis on accuracy and deadline adherence. Ability to effectively and efficiently multitask and prioritize workload.
• Excellent written and oral communication, including ability to copy-edit and proofread.
• Personal tact, perseverance, and follow-through are critical interpersonal skills in this position.
• Ability to apply tact and maintain confidentiality. Customer-focused, customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate fundraiser requests to guide development of appropriate documentation and to prepare agreements for review and final approval.
• Enter and maintain all relevant information in tracking systems to ensure that information is correct and actionable.
• Provide basic coaching and training for fundraisers and Advancement staff, including development and maintenance of policy, process, and protocol documentation.
