Job summary

Hurt & Proffitt is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist to support our geotechnical practice in the Lynchburg area. The role combines field and office work, including subsurface investigations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical evaluations.

You will work with experienced professionals on a variety of projects and have opportunities for growth toward licensure as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist, depending on the track pursued and certifications obtained.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in civil engineering, geological engineering, or geology.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience with EIT eligibility preferred.
• Interest in licensure as a professional engineer or geologist and willingness to obtain the designation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct subsurface investigations in the field with the drill team and log soil/rock observations.
• Conduct laboratory soils testing and assist with geotechnical calculations.
• Prepare draft geotechnical reports under supervision and support construction materials testing.
• Review field and lab results for accuracy and project conformance.
• Communicate findings to project managers and clients in a timely, professional manner.
