Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time Civil Engineering Intern to support our geotechnical, geostructural, and field operations in Rockville, MD. The internship runs from May through August 2027, offering hands-on experience under the guidance of senior engineering personnel.

The role emphasizes broadening practical knowledge by applying professional principles to real problems, with opportunities in field work, construction observation, and basic design tasks.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
• Desire and willingness to work outdoors.
• Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical field work including observing subsurface exploration, using GPS to layout borings, and performing infiltration testing.
• Perform construction observation and materials testing at construction sites.
• Perform laboratory testing.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
• Provide support to engineers on preparing geotechnical proposals and reports.
• Some travel may be required.
