Schnabel, Inc. is seeking a temporary full-time Civil Engineering Intern to support our geotechnical and environmental projects in Sterling, VA.

The internship focuses on applying professional principles to real-world problems under the supervision of senior engineers, with a May–August 2027 timeframe. The role offers exposure to field and office work, including geotechnical testing, data collection, and basic drafting using AutoCAD and GIS.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
• Good oral and written communication and computer literacy.
• Ability to work in a team and follow directions.
• Willingness to perform office and field work.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as part of light field work.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical field tasks including observing subsurface explorations and using GPS to map borings.
• Assist construction observation and materials testing at sites.
• Conduct laboratory testing as needed.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
• Support engineers in preparing geotechnical proposals and reports.
• Some travel may be required.
