Job summary

Schnabel Engineering in Glen Allen, VA, seeks a Civil Engineering Intern for May–August 2027. This temporary full-time internship offers hands-on fieldwork and office exposure under senior engineers.

You will perform geotechnical field work, observation, lab testing, create basic AutoCAD/GIS figures, and assist with proposals. Enrolled in ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program; strong communication and willingness to work outdoors; valid US driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform office and field work.
• Desire and willingness to work outdoors.
• Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical field work including observing subsurface exploration, GPS layout of borings, and infiltration testing.
• Perform construction observation and materials testing at sites.
• Perform laboratory testing.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
• Support engineers in preparing geotechnical proposals and reports.
• Some travel may be required.
